Metal Ceramic And Invisible Or Clear Braces

Braces are extremely common and are used to straighten and align teeth, which can improve a person’s bite, smile and overall dental health. Braces are not just cosmetic “smile-fixers” – braces are used to correct serious over-bites and under-bites, as well as deep bites, cross bites, to fix crooked teeth and are often used in conjunction with other dental or orthodontic procedures to improve someone’s jaw and/or dental health.

If you or your loved one is contemplating braces to correct a dental issue, there are a types of braces available. During your consulation our DDDC Orthodontics professional will discuss the various braces options available, and help you to determine which type will be the best fit for your needs.

Metal Braces
Traditional metal wired braces: these are the most common types of braces and are made up of stainless steel (sometimes mixed with titanium). If you have a nickel allergy, braces can be made using only titanium. Traditional metal braces are made up of metal brackets, elastic bands and wires, all of which work in conjunction to align and straighten teeth. The metal brackets are glued (with dental cement) to the front of each tooth, and the elastic bands help hold the wire onto the bracket. The wires themselves provide the constant tension that is needed to move teeth. Your orthodontist will periodically need to tighten the wire and bands, depending on how much your teeth need to adjust.

Tooth colored braces(ceramic) and lingual brace
Many adults and teens are interested in braces which are less visible than traditional metal braces. There are several options in the market today, and here at DDDC we will work with you to find a solution that you will be happy with.Tooth colored braces options include the use of ceramic or tooth-colored plastic brackets, which function in a similar way to traditional metal bracket braces. Another option may be lingual braces, which are an alternative bracing method where braces are bonded to the back of teeth, rendering them nearly invisible.
